Members of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused a dramatic scene in parliament today when they chanted the name of the alleged first-wife of Vice President Bawumia.
Ramatu Bawumia is the supposed first wife of the Vice President who he has strategically kept away from the attention of the public.
Therefore, when the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin introduced Samira Bawumia as the Second Lady and wife to the Vice President, the NDC MPs created a fuss about it as they chant “We want Ramatu, We want Ramatu.”
The Speaker in sensing the de-escalation of the chant quietly said,” Hon. members, I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu”
How it happened:
On 7th January 2021, during the inauguration ceremony of President Nana Addo and his Vice, Dr Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament was made to mention names of dignitaries who were present.
Upon getting to the name of the second lady, the Speaker of Parliament referred to her as Ramatu Bawumia, but later retracted it and mentioned Samira Bawumia because according to him Ramatu was the name given to him.
But the good news was that one Facebook user revealed the real reason the Speaker of Parliament was given Ramatu Bawumia.
According to the account identified as Stephen Kwabena Attuh, Bawumia has a first wife called Ramatu Bawumia whom he is allegedly hiding from the public.
If indeed the Vice President has a first wife called Ramatu Bawumia, then we can’t understand why she is not in the public domain despite his religion permitting more than one wife.
