Minority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu was concerned about the exclusion of the issues of LGBTQ+ from the State of the Nation Address by President Akufo-Addo.
The President per the constitution delivered the first State of the Nation Address of his second term before parliament today and spoke on several issues of national and political consideration but failed to touch on LGBTQ+.
Therefore, Haruna Iddrisu in his remark after the President has delivered his address questioned why he excluded the issues of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Trabgenders etc…which has become part of the Ghanaians conversation in recent days from his address.
Although the President has spoken and stated emphatically that he is not going to allow for the legalization of LGBTQ+ in Ghana, Ghanaians were expecting him to make a definite statement on the issue especially when he was addressing the entire nation on the state of Ghana.
Thus, Haruna Iddrisu expressed surprise when he said: ” Mr President, you failed to speak on the issues of LGBTQ+, the debt of Ghana and the killings during the 2020 election.”
Aside from that, other issues the President failed to include in his address is corruption, insecurity amongst others.
